Chickweed Arts – NNI Registered Company

Skidoo Expedition, looking out on Frobisher Bay, Iqaluit, Winter 2017

Chickweed Arts became an official NNI business this week, registered as a Northern-owned company, providing services in the North, by the North, for the North! http://nni.gov.nu.ca/business/profile/2249

For those that are curious about the name… Chickweed has nothing to do with the current legalisation of marijuana in Canada! Chickweed/Miqqaviat is the common English/Inuktitut name for a very small white, flowering plant that grows throughout Nunavut. It is humble, diverse in nature, and has some medicinal properties as well as effectively brightening the heart in the spring and summer when spotted among the rocks!
Chickweed’s latin name is Stellarium longpipes, since its resembles a star in the sky, and has a long stem. The Chickweed plant has many various expressions of itself, like people!  One variation of Chickweed, is called Mouse-eared Chickweed, since it’s petals, look like the ears of a mouse!
