Filming for Build Films

Chickweed Arts spent two days filming on the ice near Iqaluit last week, for a short film being produced by Build Films of Winnipeg, to be released in the fall.

In post-production at Build Films, hand-drawn animations will be added by an indigenous artist, as well as the narration of a poem written by Iqalummiut, Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory.

The film is part of a series of short films about indigenous health disparities in Canada, and featured local youth actors Makpa Otak and Leetia Eegesiak. Leetia was dog musher for Kool Runnings Inc. of Iqaluit and in the film, her character is a good friend of Makpa, who walks and talks with her grandmother’s spirit, as she looks for guidance and encouragement.
