Qaggiavuut Society Pisiit Project & Qaggiq School

Chickweed Arts was commissioned by Qaggiavuut Performing Arts Society, to film traditional Pisiit songs with seven elders from the communities of Gjoa Haven, Igloolik, Talyoak, Kugaaruk, Rankin Inlet. The videos will be distributed in an iPad app to be released by Qaggiavuut to preserve songs while also serving to train young singers in this traditional art-form. The songs are meditative poetic stories, full of metaphor, life lessons, warnings and celebrations of Inuit life.

Chickweed Arts also photographed the evening concert on Aug 9 2018. Take a look at Qaggiavuut’s Facebook page for the full album of photographs.
